In addition to working as a designer for live events, I also work as a light artist exploring light in sculptures and installations. I am drawn to light as a tool that not only creates space but contextualizes it. To this end my work tends to explore color and form via found materials, taking inspiration from prominent artists such as Dan Flavin, Helen Pashgian and Olafur Eliasson.

Below is a selection of personal projects, installations, and collaborations.

Ode to 4.33

Inspired by the Lumia shows of the 1950s and 60s, and the work of composer John Cage, Ode to 4.33 explores the visualization of silence. Created entirely with found objects in my LA apartment, I sought to give form to the feeling of daydreaming in those rare moments of isolation.

The Room Outside of Time

In collaboration with LA composer Dorsey, Room Outside of Time, was an interactive sound exhibit featuring cassettes and analog circuits that allowed participants to adjust the pitch and sound within the room.

Dorsey desired a mysterious and otherwordly atmosphere that was accomplished through the saturated lighting of a metal sculpture centerpiece.

Premiere showing at California Institute of the Arts, Fall 2022

Impact

Impact is an exploration of environment and light. I wanted to explore the effect lighting had on enhancing the atmosphere present in physical space.

Here I explore the feeling of danger and unease by lighting a box punctured by nails with a red light at various intensities.

Untitled Foil Project

Foil Project was a conceptual comedy piece conceived by Production Designer Ethan Geisness. Working with myself and Scenic Designer Zeni Hyden-Soffer, we worked to create a space that redefined a common household object into a large scale centerpiece with colorful lighting and exaggerated action.
